Main Responsibilities:

Provide Technical Leadership to Project Teams – In all cases the Project Lead has ultimate responsibility for all aspects of the project work. A Technical Lead is allocated to oversee all work going on in a given area of the PP as follows:

  • Planning - Meet project leads prior to trial to discuss projects. Principal technician will both assist project leads in trial preparation and where required take full responsibility for the planning and execution of trials. Work on either multiple smaller projects in parallel with phased deadlines or more complex medium RD&Q projects/activities.

  • Preparation - Use prior experience of planning R&D trials to provide expert guidance and identify and resolve any issues that may occur at an early stage.

  • Execution - Support the Project Lead in running the trial, providing technical and project management expertise and advice as required (eg. data collection, quality, GMP and H&S compliance). The Technologist will be expected to be an able to run a variety of equipment and projects with minimal supervision and recommend improvements in within the project area.

  • Administrative Tasks - The Technician will take responsibility for the upkeep and training of the trial planning guide.

  • Coach & Enforce GMP & Safe WOW - All the Pilot Plant staff set the highest standard of compliance with GMP and H&S, as well as best practice for trial planning and execution. The Technician will have responsibility for carrying out audits in designated areas of the pilot plant and ensuring that audit actions are managed to completion.

  • Deliver Technical Training & Demonstrations – As an equipment expert the technician will have sufficient practical knowledge and experience to deliver technical training and demonstrations. As an experienced operator they will deliver training to Pilot Plant users and sign them off as competent to use the equipment. The Principal Technician will also investigate, suggest and implement CI opportunities for the equipment in which they are expert.

  • Communication - High visibility within RD&Q as owner of best practice for running equipment, able to advise and recommend improvements within the project area. Capable of leading teams in pilot plant trials and training others within immediate group in core technical practices.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Post high school technical or vocational training up to and including degree level

  • Good understanding of category specific technology, especially the directly-related processes/lines

  • Participate in research/commercialization of a product/process

  • Experience successfully organising R&D trials

  • Ability to manage the tasks and responsibilities of themselves and others

  • Confident communicator, able to challenge PP users on adherence to GMP and H&S procedures

  • Ability to identify and solve problems before they occur

  • Ability to adapt personal style to work with a range of R&D personnel from international backgrounds

  • Pursues tasks with drive and a need to finish; works through setbacks or changes
