About The Opportunity
This role is a secondment opportunity based in Filton, Bristol
It will be based in the Wing Assembly team.
Responsible for first line management of co-workers, motivating and leading by example through value added production activities. Primary responsibilities include adherence to production plan, B-stamping parts, checking other operators’ work, and leading start of shift meetings.
Environment Health and Safety
Responsible for safety of all team members by :
Taking proactive measures to eliminate hazards.
Leading accident and near miss investigations, ensuring that recommendations are identified and actioned as part of each business areas continuous improvement drive.
Ensuring that safe behaviours are demonstrated by all team members ie PPE and adherence to Safe Standards of Work.
Maintaining 5s requirements for own work area.
Compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health and Safety procedures relevant to all work activities.
Reporting all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions.
Responsible for ensuring that required product quality targets are met to include :
Maintaining GKN QMS and Process control standards.
Completion of non-conformance investigations using PPS (Practical Problem Solving methods).
Accountable for scrap and concession targets for own work area with focus on Right First Time.
Ensure that customer returns are managed timely and efficiently.
Response for 100% on time delivery to customer through :
Adherence to production plans.
Lost time recording/collection, including OEE (overall equipment effectiveness)
Leadership of total planned maintenance.
Adherence to shop floor visual management standards.
Responsible for delivery of cost performance targets for work area through :
Shift by shift output delivery.
Management of headcount, overtime (distributed fairly and equally in line with skills requirements) and time and attendance efficiently.
Management of non-payroll costs in line with budget.
Responsible for wellbeing and performance of team members including :
Supporting team members with developing and training needs.
Effective performance management in accordance with the Company’s Capability Procedure to include informal stage of procedure only.
Responsibility for managing sickness absence in accordance with the informal stages of the Company’s Sickness Absence Management Policy to include, if necessary, issue of informal discussion.
Management of any conduct issues in accordance with the informal stages of the Disciplinary Procedure including the issue of “record of conversation” where necessary.
Responsible for Think Career discussions with team members.
Lead team performance reviews as per schedule – i.e. Daily Start of Shift and Quarterly Reviews.
Lead scheduled EI time focusing on performance improvement.
Promote team’s behaviour in accordance with GKN Code of Conduct and lead by example.
Export Control Requirements
- Champion Export Control compliance activities, ensuring, where applicable, self and team members adhere to the site Technical Control Plan (TCP) guaranteeing compliance with Export Control regulations, controls, training and systems.
Qualifications / Experience / Skills
Must have experience as a Fitter
Relevant apprenticeship as a tinsmith, fabricator or TIG welder or equivalent and previous assembly experience would be advantageous.
Ability to work to standard operating procedures.
Ensure that all team members are productive at their place of work for the full working time and escalate to the Operations Group Leader as required.
Provide professional handover of information to next shift and cascade information appropriately.
Support off site work as needed including travel to customers and/or suppliers.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principals and techniques to support GKN Filton continuous improvement initiatives.
Self-motivated team player with good communication skills.
Export control understanding and regulatory requirements.
