- To conduct Radio Frequency Engineering activities to ensure products are designed to meet the requirements of our customers
Scope / dimensions:
- The Senior RF Engineer will work within specialised teams, each with up to ten Engineers of various disciplines, furnishing expert RF knowledge for projects that are typically several million pounds in value. Each project is likely to last for some years, from quotation until completion of production and the Senior RF Engineer will contribute expertise at each stage.
Responsible for the design, development and support our RF products.
Has a variety of engineering methods and techniques; applies and adapts these as necessary to create solutions.
Will be involved in more than one project at any one time; multi-tasks appropriately to serve needs of all projects.
Liaises with customers as required.
Accurately estimates work of self and others; identifies cost-effective solutions in terms of both development time and materials; delivers predictably and increases team’s ability to do the same.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Is proficient in full life cycle of RF development; adheres to strict engineering design processes.
Is proficient in RF system design, for example designing a Line-Of-Sight digital data link
Understands the trade-offs that need to be made
Can select suitable modules from which to build the system
Proficient in component-level design of RF modules, for example:
RF power amplifier design up to microwave frequencies
RF synthesiser design
Familiarity with RF design tools (e.g Keysight ADS)
Low-noise amplifier design
Generates understandable and unambiguous RF requirements based on user and systems level requirements.
Generates high quality, robust RF system designs to meet requirements.
Integrates RF modules with other system components; contributes positively to identifying to which system component any issues encountered relate to; resolves any issues identified in RF modules.
Determines and publishes the appropriate test strategy for RF blocks; ensures that suitable operation is confirmed in accordance with that test strategy.
Ensures that all items produced are independently reviewed; engages in the review of items produced by others (including appropriate items produced by other disciplines).
Ensures that RF work is configured and controlled appropriately, and promotes collaborative development.
Actively looks for opportunities to improve processes used in the RF development; proposes appropriate changes
- Degree in electronics, engineering, physics, or natural sciences
