Role Summary:

Full Time Status

To manage the day to day activities of the plant maintenance and reliability department including the maintenance of all plant buildings and services.

The position also provides engineering support on an ‘as required’ basis to other groups within the organisation, including subsidiaries.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Overall management responsibilities for the maintenance activities, including contract personnel.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all plant, equipment, buildings and services on the Kirkby site, in order to maintain production, minimise downtime, and provide a safe working environment for all employees

  • To maintain and extend the maintenance management systems to the standards expected under COMAH, including risk based inspection programmes

  • Preparation of cost budgets for repairs, replacements, contract maintenance and utilities, ensuring that such budgets are adhered to.

  • Preparation of capital cost estimates and capital cost authorisation requests

  • Responsible for the on-going management of engineering projects from design through installation and commissioning, using internal and for external resources, to agreed time and cost parameters

  • Responsible for setting engineering specifications and standards for the department, as a basis for identifying approved vendors and contractors.

  • Responsible for the monitoring, maintenance and cost efficiency of all site utilities

  • To ensure that the engineering requirements associated with all current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation are fully complied with

  • To provide technical assistance and engineering support to other groups in the organisation, including overseas subsidiaries

  • To provide technical reports to senior management on issues pertaining to long term site development, de-bottlenecking and plant/equipment condition

  • Responsible for engineering input into all site process safety management requirements

  • Other ad-hoc duties and special projects as required

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent ideally with Chartered status.

  • Significant experience of management of a maintenance or engineering department in a chemical processing operation ie Top Tier COMAH site would be essential

  • Experience of contractor management and recognized UK standard forms of contract

  • Experience of management of CDM (Construction Design and Management Regulations)

  • Experience of project management of capital projects and portfolio project management

  • Experience of budgeting and cost forecasting and cost centre management

  • Experience with CMMS systems, ideally D7i or Maximo and management regulations

  • Experience in RCM and FMECA

  • Experience of Engineering purchasing

  • Experience of working with hazardous installation on either lower or top tier COMAH site

  • Experience of managing the day to day requirements regarding the management of personnel, which includes but is not limited to the allocation of workload, handling employee relation issues, performance reviews and the general training, coaching, motivating and mentoring of staff.

  • Experience of planning and scheduling the departments workload in order to meet customer order dates

  • Previous experience of undertaking management responsibilities in relation to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) of employees

  • Experience of direct contract and relationship management with UK regulators, the Health and Safety Executive and Environment Agency

  • In depth understanding of process safety management activities and responsibilities

  • Knowledge of 6 Sigma

  • Experience of financial assessment and management of major projects

  • Contract negotiation

  • Knowledge of process control and safety shutdown systems
