About our team and what we do
Shell Trading is one of the largest oil and gas trading companies in the world, trading around 19 million barrels per day of crude oil, products and gas. Crude alone accounts for 9 million barrels per day.
We are looking for someone to join our team to manage and develop crude trading business in Africa, Mediterranean, Caspian and India.
The trading book has a Business development team with a mandate to grow business from long term offtake and supply opportunities apart from creating logistics access for the desk. The BD team is also involved in offering structured financing solutions to third parties, a key CVP.
To support the growth of Crude Trading across Mediterranean and Caspian region, by successfully and efficiently negotiating and closing out crude oil Business Development projects. In achieving these aims it is intended to maximise the use of cross-business relationships within Shell for the benefit of Trading and Group. The team therefore works closely with Downstream Supply, Strategy & Portfolio and Future Fuels; Upstream, Shell Global Solutions and Gas & Power.
Identify, originate and deliver new Business Development growth opportunities for Crude and Products Trading in line with the Trading desk plans and sponsorship, undertaking appropriate research and analysis. This will include the acquisition of term offtake agreements for crude oil with independent producers, national and regional oil companies. In addition, it will include the development of term crude supply agreements with refineries in Mediterranean and Caspian region, which may involve “crude for product swaps” or processing deals as well as potential storage and logistics opportunities.
Development of the appropriate Project Management skills while applying due process along with meeting the real-time demands of the Trading environment.
Develop and maintain key Trading customer and business relationships which are complimentary to those held by the Trading desks.
Create innovative solutions to meet customer requirements whilst maximising the value of tradable options and taking due account of all risks including credit, price risk, HSSE and Group reputation.
Negotiation of substantive commercial agreements, which could involve financing requirements.
The successful applicant will have experience of working across different cultures.
They will need to build strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders at different organisational levels across their region of responsibility and leverage these relationships to deliver value in Business Development projects.
Extensive travel to the region is likely.
What we need from you
The market environment is undergoing significant change. This creates particular challenges where we need someone with creativity and capacity is to provide innovative solutions.
Experience we look for includes: return on working capital, pre-financing, structured financing, risk management solutions and trading in a volatile oil price environment.
The ability to solve problems creatively, commercially and pragmatically is essential.
Business Development relies, for a significant amount of its project work, on cross-business initiatives, therefore an "Enterprise First" approach is key.
We are looking for someone with high capacity, with a degree from a leading university, to perform at this level with proven acumen and relevant experience across all criteria.

Crude Trading Business Development provides a unique opportunity to apply commercial deal leadership skills from origination through project management to deal execution and implementation. The Crude Business Development Team is responsible for leading some of the more complex multi stakeholder Shell Trading deals both to grow the third party Trading business and by representing Trading within major Shell Group projects. The position will provide an opportunity to interface with all Shell Businesses (upstream and downstream), take responsibility for developing senior level relationships, support the negotiation of substantive agreements and develop wider Trading knowledge.
