Job Description An exciting opportunity to join a world-class team responsible for delivering 10 million high-performance brushless motor-drive units per year for automotive electric steering, braking and auxiliary actuators for chassis and transmission for one of the world’s largest producers of these products. The motor-drive for these products is designed in ZF’s prestigious technical centre in Solihull, with over 40 years of high tech R&D combining the best aspects of university research and industry.
The design of these systems is extremely challenging requiring safety-critical servo-drive performance at automotive costs. The latest development of autonomous driving systems adds new requirements in terms of fault tolerant motor design, which makes this a very exciting time for actuator development. ZF leads the field in many areas of design and research, and employs cutting-edge motor design technologies such as segmented stator assemblies, sensorless control and advanced noise reduction.
As Electromagnectic Design Engineer – Steering Systems (m/f) you will use finite element modelling and analytical calculations to analyse/optimise motor, actuator and sensor magnetic circuits
as well as motor topology design
Customise and automate simulations by writing scripts in, for instance, Matlab
Incorporate technology developments into new designs to improve performance, fault tolerance, controllability and cost
Participate in investigation and solution of production challenges
Successfully completed Degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics, ideally a PhD in Electromagnetic / Motor Design
As Electromagnectic Design Engineer – Steering Systems (m/f) you will hold experience of motor electromagnetic design and optimisation
Experience of electromechanical components and interfaces as well as developing electric drive and motor control concepts for permanent magnet AC machines
Knowledge of fault tolerant machine topolgies and optimsation of machine design for sensorless control
Fluent English language skills as well as occasional travel are required for this role
