Cabot Corporation Quality Engineer in Wales, United Kingdom

The Cabot Barry site in the Vale of Glamorgan is currently looking to recruit a Quality Engineer. The succesful candidate will have excellent critical reasoning skills and experience in applying quality and statistical tools to improve manufacturing performance. In this role you will support and implement business driven quality initiatives through a Continuous Improvement process. Identify and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing process capability, capacity and product quality and business management systems. Ensure compliance with local, regional and corporate quality standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILILITIES:

  • Safety (no actions which lead to injury or significant near miss of self or others). Process Safety Management (no actions taken outside defined procedures which results in process safety events) Permit compliance (no actions taken outside defined procedures, which results in breach of operating license).

  • Take ownership for compliance with safe systems of work in the Laboratory and on site, including but not limited to COSHH, risk assessments, SOPs, application of our Guiding Principles

  • Take Ownership for PCS/AEMS system. This includes the training, maintenance, development and continuous development of the system to drive continuous improvement across the entire plant. Drive and reduce the plant variability. Calculation of KPV limits. Deliver MRS reviews. Support plant IT in the technical development and maintenance of the AEMS IT infrastructure. Facilitation of problem solving AEMS alarm issues, using recognized tools such as 5 Whys and CauseLink.

  • Take Ownership for measuring, tracking and continuously improving Barry site ability to track non conformances and other key plant metrics (RFT, VI, CpK) Deliver a weekly update and monthly report on the performance of the site against defined KPIs (e.g. relating to process capability, corrective actions through NCR and audit).

  • Take ownership for the management of the NCR database, GCS documents and BAZAAR document control system

  • Support and provide technical assistance, troubleshooting, data interpretation, training, and problem solving efforts to various technical, QA and manufacturing functions both locally and globally.

  • Support and co-ordinate projects on a business unit and company wide basis to improve product quality and reliability.

  • Supports the Operations team and work closely with the shift managers to ensure that the process is monitored and maintained within control. Support the shift teams in developing systems to minimise production OQ, working together to implement solutions including delivery of training to standardise operations.

  • Supports the WPS team and work closely with shift mangers/WPS engineers to develop monitoring and quality tracking within the WPS department, support WPS teams in making corrective action plan

  • Support SHEQ function with ISO certifications and site internal audit programmes

  • Support the Management of Change (MOC) process by providing expert input regarding process capability.

  • Take responsibility for any other reasonable duties as required by the individual’s direct line manager.

Technical

  • Excellent critical reasoning skills.

  • Sound understanding, and application, of statistical methodologies and analytical tools and techniques.

  • Strong P.C. skills

  • Business and commercial acumen

  • Knowledge of total quality management systems, analytical techniques and quality tools

Behavioural/Managerial

  • Level 2 Barry competency directory.

  • Excellent persuasion and influencing skills as no direct reports.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • B.Sc. Degree – Science/Engineering.

  • Consolidated and demonstrable experience in chemical process (preferably continuous) in related industry.

  • Experience in applying quality and statistical tools to improve manufacturing performance.

The Barry site is part of the Fumed Metal Oxide Business within the Performance Chemicals Segment of Cabot Corporation, and has an ‘over-the-fence’ relationship with Dow Corning who is both a key supplier and customer. As the Quality Engineer you will be joining the Quailty & Environmental team anf working along side them to drive forward quality initiatives through a Continuous Improvement process
