We currently have an opportunity within the operations team for a Warehouse Technician. the primary goal is to take responsibility for the operation of the packaging line and tanker loading systems to ensure product is packed to safely, efficiently, and to Cabot’s quality standards. The job holder will be trained how to safely operate complex processes to ensure safety, health and environment standards, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness are all adhered to within the warehouse. Working as part of a team on a 12-hour continuous shift pattern that incorporates 18 and 10 day fixed holiday periods, key attributes and accountabilities for the role include:


  • To take ownership of ensuring a safe work environment by adhering to site policies and requirements; includes complying with personal protective equipment requirements, following site safety rules and standard operating procedures, maintaining an organised workplace.

  • To take ownership of the operation and monitoring of the packaging line and tanker loading systems to procedures and production plan; the filling of tankers and bags according to customer’s requirements, labeling, palletising and placing into storage.

  • To take ownership of carrying out all WPS activities according to standard operating procedures and risk assessments.

  • To take ownership of the operation of the bagging machines for filling paper sacks with silica (treated and hydrophillic).

  • To take ownership of the operation of the computer controlled packaging line machinery (including bag shaping, palletising robot, pallet press and shrink wrapping machines) according to standard operating procedures. This includes packaging line start-up, shutdown and first-line troubleshooting according to the SOP troubleshooting guide.

  • To take ownership of the operation the PAC 21 big bagging machine for filling intermediate bulk containers with silica (treated and hydrophillic), and the H&B big bagging machine.

  • To take ownership of the operation of the Treated Denser and associated equipment.

  • To take ownership of filling road tankers and seabulk containers with silica stored in silos; including connection of transfer hoses to correct silos.

  • To take ownership of the rework off quality material using rework stations according to instructions.

  • To take ownership of the operation of forklift truck to move materials to designated locations; carry out and record pre-shift inspections on forklift trucks.

  • To support in the carrying out of basic preventative maintenance activities according to procedures and schedules.

  • Record relevant information in shift-logs (written and computer based) to ensure tracability

  • To support the maximisation of reliability of the plant by identifying and raising work orders and operating the equipment to within agreed parameters.

  • To take responsibility for the action of end of line product quality checks and ensure products meet packaging quality requirements to be released to customers; take appropriate actions to address material that does not meet the required standard.

  • To take responsibility for raising incident reports and non-conformance reports in the Cabot electronic systems to raise awareness and record issues with sufficient detail to allow subsequent investigation and follow-up

  • To take ownership of the maintenance of workplace housekeeping according to documented standards & take actions without direction when conditions do not meet these standards.

  • Work with minimum supervision through the shift to meet requirements set by line manager, take responsibility for prioritising and rotating activities as necessary between the WPS shift team.

  • Support the formation of effective working relationships with other departments (e.g. process operators, maintenance technicians, engineers and WPS day-crew) to meet department and site objectives.To provide support to new personnel through provision of on-the-job training to department via work shadowing on the job(following initial site and department induction and classroom training by others)

  • To take ownership of & carry out other general WPS packaging and warehousing activities as is necessary to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of the department.

  • Follow process control strategy on individual grades as directed by shift manager

  • Once fully trained – to provide support to new personnel through provision of on job training following the site warehouse training matrix

  • If required to support the day warehouse role - take ownership of offloading road tankers and sea bulk containers with silica, and transfer to silos

  • To take responsibility for any other reasonable duties s requested by the individual’s direct line manager to be carried outAccountable for all warehouse activities, together with stock rotation of raw material & final product to ensure that customer's orders are met, ensuring a safe work environment at all times.


  • RTITB or equivalent operating counter-balance forklift truck.

  • Operation of production line machinery according to standard operating procedures.

  • Familiar with risk assessment process and ability to interpret existing risk assessment and contribute to development of new standard operating procedures and risk assessments.

  • Familiar with basic health and safety legislation and working practices.


  • SH&E training matrix


  • GCSEs in maths and English or equivalent NVQ would be advantageous.

  • Experience with machinery operation (e.g. packaging line or similar computer controlled production line) an advantage.

  • Experience or qualifications in: - Fork Lift Truck , Manual Handling , Risk Assessment would be advantegous

  • Sound computer literacy to intermediate level in both word and excel
