The job is to be based out of Datapaq's head office in the UK. The post, although very technical in nature, is positioned in the PM/ BUM structure of the company and will report into the General Manager

FPI as a result will have a strong commercial bias, it is vital however that very close links are established and maintained with all areas of the company especially Research & Development and Marketing.

Datapaq products are sold world-wide and the person in this position needs to maintain a close relationship with other Datapaq offices and their related markets.

Datapaq's business is targeted into a number of industries. This job is to initially focus on the Oven (coatings) industry, and then to expand the role to include the Reflow (electronics) industry. The job is to create an environment where maximum sales may be made into the industries in the short, medium and long term.

This will be achieved by:

Establishing and maintaining an in depth knowledge Of all matters associated with the industry.

Providing the sales structure with the tools, knowledge and skills to sell the product.

Focusing sales effort on the most profitable opportunities.

Ensure future products are right for the market, timely and 'ahead of the game'.

Key activities:

Establish and maintain a factual knowledge and in-depth understanding of all matters associated with the relevant industries by:-

Establishing close relationships with the 'kef players

Regular site visits to a full spectrum of end users and potential end users.

Membership and participation in relevant trade associations.

Actively promote, look for and create, new sales opportunities for the product world-wide.

Train and support the sales force and assist in agent training in all aspects of the product.

Propose product developments and enhancements having obtained input from the industry , our customers and potential customers, as well as internal sales and development. Once requirements are agreed champion their implementation.

Propose new products to meet the industries current and future requirements having obtained input from the industry, our customers and potential customers, as well as internal sales and development. Once requirements are agreed champion their implementation.

Ensure all product developments and modifications are successfully transferred to the sale force world-wide

Prepare for and launch new products ensuring all new products are successfully transferred to the sale force world-wide.

Co-ordinate the production of sales, promotional and technical support literature.

Assist with setting ofpricing structure.

Undertake market research projects to obtain information to assist in focusing sales effort.

Ensure information relating to the industry is shared and transferred between all interested parties.

Use regularly telemarketing exercises as part of the front end sales activities.

Properly define and segment the market into its relevant groupings.

Ensure that we have products appropriate to each segment provided that the cost/benefit is justified.

Professional, enthusiastic and dynamic environment. The person in this position must be able to liaise extremely well with a broad range of people and disciplines. Internally many research and development disciplines as well as operations and sales, and externally the person must be exceptionally good in a 'customer facing' situation. The post, as well as basic salary, is likely to include a performance related bonus linked to both company Wide sales achievement as well as

annually set objectives. Holiday, etc standard Datapaq terms. This is a key role and a challenging long term task. This post could be a link across disciplines for the right candidate, ie technical to commercial.

Performance standards can be divided into 2 areas:

Sales volume - targeted world-wide sales in the oven industry.


Bachelor’s or Master’s degree-

At least 5 years of experience

Smart businesslike' manner

HNC/HND or greater in engineering discipline (probably mechanical or production engineering)

Good PC skills, windows and DOS

Technically quick.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desire to learn / enquiring mind

Hard working

Ability to relate to a Wide range of people

Industry knowledge (preferred)

Sales skills (preferred)



Team player



Location within 45 min Cambridge. Ideally less than 30 min


Able and Willing to travel in both UK and overseas
