Salary: £50,000 - £61,000 depending on experience

Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat®Articulated Trucks, currently producing a 6-model range used in many industriesincluding mining, construction and aggregates. The facility's manufacturingactivities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotics technology anda state-of-the-art paint plant. Machines from the site are shipped to customersaround the world.

The Mining Design Centre (MDC) are responsible for fulldesign and development of Articulated Trucks, leveraging technical support fromkey component, system partners, test facilities and computer simulationtechniques in UK North America and India. The Peterlee team utilises the latestdesign systems and techniques including 3D virtual vitalisation, R & D andProduction Validation centres. On site manufacturing enables close, real-timecollaboration with Cross Functional teams for Operations, ManufacturingEngineering, Quality and Logistics.

As an Engineering System Team Leader, you will partner with,and provide technical guidance to global teams. You will manage planning anddelivery of complex and challenging structural (Fabrications). Projects whereyou will push boundaries, continually learn and stay abreast of innovativetechnology, mentor and coach team members, broaden your professional network,work with exciting and enthusiastic teams.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limitedto:

  • Deliver multiple design projects simultaneously,with project management, with on sound priority decisions by assembling andleading diverse teams, accountable to deliver results on time.

  • Develop, coach and mentor an indirect team ofprofessional Engineers in the field of Structural Fabrications, Design forManufacture in an enviable manufacturing facility using Sate of Art processes.

  • Research, develop, and design machine conceptsand layouts for Articulated Truck major chassis fabrications working with: Performanceand Simulation, Research and Development teams, 3D virtual facility and localProving Ground.

  • Continuously improve the product and department.Problem solve issues in current production and new programs by analysis anddetermination of underlying systems.

  • Utilise and develop technical expertise, productknowledge to deliver programs using NPI process, have experience in, APQP, FMEAand Engineering Change workflow.

  • Develop and lead innovation, efficiencyimprovement, manage cost and weight.

  • Anticipate issues and take appropriate actionwithout being directed. Manage: a diverse team, projects, design system tools,drawing release and Bill of Material. lead multiple projects simultaneously andmake sound priority decisions.

  • Understand customer requirements and use thatinformation to generate robust solutions/test plans to deliver customer valuein a timely manner.

This position has the potential to develop in to aleadership role where you will directly develop, coach and mentor your team.

Skills, experience & qualifications you will have;

  • Extensive Design and/or Manufacturing Engineerexperience in Chassis Fabrication and/or Structures and problem-solvingcapability.

  • Experience showing expertise in component andsystem design.

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering disciplineOR equivalent experience in Design and/ or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Demonstrable experience of problem solvingdesign issues for current and/or NPI projects

  • Strong communication skills – oral and writtencomplemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations. Theability to work in a diverse team environment with peers, managers, suppliers,dealers, & customers.

  • Experience of leading and managing multiplediverse teams with complex project plans, from concept to production and beaccountable to deliver results on time.

  • The ability to work in – and enjoy workingwithin – a dynamic environment; adapting to and driving positivity and change.

  • Initiative – a self-starter that requiresminimal supervision

  • Natural ability to lead, coach and mentor teamswith a willingness to have a direct team in the future.

Skills, experience & qualifications you may have;

  • Extensive experience in Machine/ComponentDesign, Analysis or Performance

  • Master degree (or equivalent) in an accreditedEngineering, Materials Science curriculum.

  • Previous leadership experience and a desire todrive team goals and personnel reviews.
