Our Customer and Enterprise Transformation (CET) team sits at BT Group level and is responsible for designing and delivering strategic transformation programmes and projects to solve the toughest challenges facing BT.

As a Finance Manager, you are expected to work closely within your team, building relationships and assisting the Senior Managers and Heads of Transformation Design to deliver a successful project. Success criteria vary between programmes although typical projects will look at discontinuous change ranging from organisational design and re-organisation to insourcing/outsourcing opportunities and process/system improvements, all with an eye on customer experience.

You will lead small projects or workstreams of a larger programme, reporting regularly to the Director Transformation Design, and presenting to your sponsors, being Directors and Managing Directors in the business. You may work independently or in a small team of 2-3 people and can expect to have responsibility for Finance Analysts in some cases. Projects typically take 3-6 months from baseline to sign-off, and you will have rotation opportunities across the 6 business units of BT.

What you'll be doing

You will excel in this role if you possess a combination of analytical and conceptual problem solving skills, commercial and financial acumen, and strong stakeholder engagement and management capabilities. You should expect to undertake the following activities as part of the role.

  • Independently conducts analysis. Ensures that the data and numbers are correct. Drives to a benefit number on small project/waves independently. Presents data in a clear format. Can coach the business where required to do analysis of good quality and helps the business to present this in a clear format.

  • Develops a full presentation independently, creating a clear story line, compelling data and analysis and actions. Presentations or slides are often reused by others as a basis / template for their own meetings.

  • Communicates clearly, concisely and in a structured manner. Is very effective at all types of meetings, including presentations, discussions, facilitation, workshops etc. and can deal with a wide range of stakeholders in all these meetings.

  • Effectively deals with Director-level stakeholders and below. Builds good and long-lasting relationships at Director-level and across finance - and manages to drive agreement and support across a wide range of stakeholders on their project/wave. Can independently lead workshops with operational stakeholders - even when the stakeholders are defensive & difficult, or their work areas complex. Can effectively turn around stakeholders and bring them on board.

  • Finds business opportunities and gets to a financial / customer impact value.

  • Identifies operational issues and develops new solutions together with the business to drive change. Receives positive feedback from the business and stays involved during implementation. Change is implemented and drives sustainable improvement in efficiency.

  • Understanding of the standard & advanced Lean and Six Sigma techniques and can apply these techniques to undertake a range of complex analysis as needed in the project.

  • Has a deep understanding of financial principles. Understands whether the unit is profitable and can use this context to create a platform for change and to focus on changes that have a bottom line impact for BT.

Degree level of equivalent and either a fully qualified accountant (e.g. CIMA, ACA) or role equivalent consulting / business improvement experience.
