Innovation and BIM

Today with advances in technology, equipment automation, data integration, and BIM brought about by the Information Age the opportunities in the engineering, procurement, and construction industry are accelerating. The BIM Project Information Manager (PIM) is a new critical role within our project organisation to lead the delivery of our evolving data-centric execution approach on projects.
The Infrastructure Innovation Operations Manager and is responsible for implementing the Innovation program for the UK and EAMS region. The role reports to the Infrastructure Manager of Innovation. The role is accountable for identifying and implementing Innovative concepts, work processes and tools to meet regional strategic requirements. The candidate will need to have experience implanting BIM Execution Plans to meet Employer’s Information Requirements and will need to demonstrate strategic thinking in the management of information to maximize the benefits of BIM on the project.
The candidate will also perform a senior role within the Bechtel Infrastructure functional VPD (Virtual Project Delivery) and Innovation Team. Within this capacity the candidate will provide oversight to the team to manage innovation ideas and supporting the development of BIM execution plans on proposals and projects. The candidate will also be responsible for staffing, retaining, and growing the Project Information Manager (PIM) role.
A. Supervision Received
Receives operational direction from the Regional General Manager for the UK and EAMS
Receives functional direction from the Infrastructure Manager of Innovation.
Objectives are defined and results are subject to supervisory review.
B. Supervision Exercised
Provides operational direction to the deployed BIM team members on the project, including the BIM Lead(s) and BIM Project Information Manager. Whist in a non-project capacity they will provide senior supervisory oversight within the VPD and Innovation Team.
Work closely with the Project Managers to:
Ensure the project BIM strategy and BEP is aligned and executed according to the Project Execution Plan (PEP)
Assign the key roles on the project identified in the BEP
Work closely with the functional teams, to execute the BEP and deliver the required information in accordance with the BEP
Work closely with the IS&T manager on the deployment and implementation of BIM toolsets
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for deployment of the Innovation program for the EAMS and UK regions
Developing and maintaining the project information standards and protocols
Enable the project teams to be self-sufficient in delivering the BIM by:
Develop, grow, and expand the culture of Innovation for projects and offices under their regional purview; including soliciting, developing, piloting, and implementing Future Fund Ideas
Coordinate with the Innovation Operations Manager for Americas and Asia for strategic initiatives and consistency of deployment
Staff, retain, and grow the deployed Project Information Manager positions on project
Respond to proposals and projects in recommending and implementing innovation strategy, tools, and work processes to meet customer and project goals
Ensuring BIM Competency Assessment Forms are completed by the key roles identified in the BEP
Bachelors or higher-level degree in Engineering, Procurement, Construction or Information Systems related field
Significant experience working within the EPC functions or a strong project-led understand of cross-functional EPC work processes and the applications used for project execution
Significant Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Procurement, Automation or Information Systems experience (10 years +) with a passion for implementing new and innovative work processes
Strong ability to explain new work processes and technologies to employees from all levels of the organization
Ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities
Exceptional communication (written and verbal), teamwork skills and leadership capabilities
Preferred Qualifications :
Understanding of or working experience of implementing BIM in accordance with PAS1192 (Part 2 through 5)
Project experience of one or more of Bechtel Infrastructure main business lines (e.g. Rail, Power, Comms, Civil, Aviation)
Current understanding of best practice BIM implementation methodologies
Working knowledge of BIM information management software
