Job Description

  • Salary: (‘Competitive Market Rate’)

  • Open Date: 16 th of April 2018

  • Application Closing Date: 16 th of May 2018

This new role offers all the appeal of a start-up but with the backing of one of the world’s best-known energy brands.

Where you fit in

At Shell, we don’t wait for change – we make it happen. Our New Energy business has a brief to invest in business opportunities emerging via increased data analytics and smart phone connectivity. It means that we can offer the best of both worlds: a start-up culture with small agile teams, empowered to work fast and deliver rapid product developments coupled with the backing of one of the world’s biggest companies. Join us and you’ll be able to leverage our brand, tap into our assets and share ideas with talented and supportive colleagues.

What’s the role?

You’ll be part of our entrepreneurial Digital Businesses New Business Development team who work closely with Venture Leads and our frontline business decision-makers to scan the horizon for the best digital opportunities in connected mobility and energy. In a highly external role, you’ll focus on working with the start-up community in disrupting mobility and transport.

Your remit stretches from gathering external insight to ensuring speed to market and timely delivery of new commercial concepts. That includes performing due diligence on startup companies and developing investment proposals. You’ll also keep colleagues in New Fuels, Connected Energy, Trading, Lubricants and Retail involved, tapping into their expertise to inform business cases and design effective Proof of Concept trials. You’ll write regular pieces for the Connected Customer Blog too – publicising our progress across the world of Shell is a vital part of what we do.

What we need from you

Our perfect candidate would be someone with a deep understanding of digital products, particularly data platforms coupled with some understanding of road freight and logistics. It’s possible you’ve worked in freight logistics before or in a B2B/B2C role in the energy sector.

Whatever your background, we’re looking for an appetite for risk and the self-drive to lead the way forward in an exploratory and often ambiguous environment. You need impressive experience in working with digital start-ups; you’ve proven you understand the economics and commercial risk behind different new business models and you’re highly conversant with digital disruption and the digital megatrends.

On top of that, you probably have some of the following on your CV:

  • A basic understanding of intellectual property requirements.

  • The conceptual and commercial skills to optimise complex systems and removing inefficiencies.

  • Exposure to 'agile' ways of working.

  • Good understanding of transport ecosystems and related value pools.

  • Previous exposure of the health safety requirements of the Oil & Gas industry

  • International experience is an advantage and an engineering academic background

  • Strong track record in Oil & Gas industry and especially digital innovations

  • Has worked on corporate sponsored venture in an operational leadership role
